First Term Writing Assignment: Narrative

This is the single most important assignment of the first term, and will represent a large portion of your first term mark for English.  I hope you take it seriously and write well.

We have read and examined many readings from many genres.  You will be writing a piece of fiction from an identifiable genre: here is a list of choices.  It does not have to be one of the genres we have studied; however, if you have chosen a different genre make sure that it is one that you understand well, so that you can write successfully.  You will be assessed on the piece by the criteria on the rubrics for other writings.  You will also have to read it aloud, and dramatically.  This is what your last rubric looked like.
Fulfill the following criteria in your story, both in the rough copy and in the good copy:
- at the top of the first page, genre, title and your name
- more than five hundred words
- font is 'Times New Roman' size 12 for paragraph text, colour is black
- all paragraphs are to be double-spaced (leaves room for corrections)

Make sure that the document is accessible both at school and at home: USB, Dropbox, Google Documents, etc. It is a good idea to follow the regular story arc, unless you are very creative and can think of a more creative plan.

There will be time in school for some of the stages, but take note of the following due dates, and note in your CIS planner:
- Create and finish a chart with the story arc and characters, or your story planned in some other point form, to show to Mr. S. and the class before the class on Wednesday, 10/23.  Do this in your notebook, neatly (if you type it, print it before class and keep the paper in your English folder).
- Finish the rough copy by Friday, 10/25, before class and bring it to class for peer-editing.  No excuses.
- Finish the good copy by Monday, 10/28, before class.
- Keep the document after you have printed the final copy for me, as I may post it on this blog (with your name hidden).

Good luck.
